Eldri van Straaten painting at her easel

Eldri van Straaten

Eldri is a South African oil painter who transitioned from teaching Biology at Brebner High School to pursuing art full-time three years ago. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she creates striking original pieces inspired by nature, animals, plant life, and portraiture, with a style that balances realism, warmth, and expressive detail.

Born in 1987 and a mother of two, Eldri brings both sensitivity and strength to her work. Her paintings reflect a careful eye for form, texture, and atmosphere, whether capturing the character of a portrait, the quiet beauty of botanical subjects, or the movement and presence of wildlife.

Following a successful exhibition two years ago, she continues to grow her body of work as a full-time artist.

First Exhibition

Two years ago, Eldri held her first successful exhibition, marking a significant milestone in her artistic journey and establishing her presence in the South African art scene.

Full-Time Artist

Today, Eldri continues to create striking original oil paintings, accepting commissions and building a diverse body of work that spans botanical studies, wildlife, portraiture, and whimsical compositions.

"My work is deeply rooted in observation and emotion. Whether I'm painting a delicate botanical subject, capturing the personality of a beloved pet, or exploring the innocence of childhood, I strive to create pieces that resonate with warmth, authenticity, and expressive detail. Oil paint allows me to build layers of texture and atmosphere, bringing each subject to life on canvas."
